To say thank you to LHCH Charity for the care he received, Jonathan Lea and his wife Shan decided to take on the challenge of cycling from London to Paris over just 3 days!
Jonathan says: "I was diagnosed with Angina and had a triple heart bypass at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital in April 2021.
I received such excellent care and made such a good recovery, my wife Shan and I wanted to raise money to show our appreciation to the hospital."
And they did just that! Over 3 days, Jonathan and Shan cycled over 190 miles to reach the French capital.
Jonathan made a short diary of his trip and you can see from this - the effort that both he and Shan put into their extremely challenging ride.
Day 1. We cycled from Kensington to Newhaven a distance of 63 miles to catch the 5.00 p.m. ferry. This was no mean feat due to the heat of the afternoon and navigating the Sussex hills.
Day 2 Dieppe to Beauvais today, a distance of 70 miles mostly along old railway lines which have been turned into green byways.
Day 3 Pushing off from Beauvais the aim was Paris - a 57 mile ride through quieter roads and French countryside finishing at the Arc de Triomphe and then to the Tour Eiffel.
Jonathan continues: "Before my operation I never felt that I would be able to attempt anything like this. Since then I have gone from strength to strength and this challenge certainly helped to improve my fitness and my confidence."
Thank you Jonathan and Shan for your amazing support and for raising an incredible £1,090 to support LHCH Charity!
